“Blessed are the meek, for they shall inherit the earth.
Not very encouraging at first, but let’s dive in a little more.
In this section of Matthew, the author retells the front-row experience of Jesus’ teaching.
The teachings feel inclusive because after reading a few lines, you realize Jesus is blessing people who have struggles.
If we aren’t careful, these lessons can disappoint because they instruct us to give up on ourselves and to rely on God.
This is intentional.
Everything Jesus does is intentional.
God wants us to rely on him as if it’s the last thing that can save us.
Because it is the last thing that will save us.
It's not that we can never trust ourselves.
When we rely on ourselves exclusively, our lives can take a wrong turn.
We are stubborn, we don’t listen and we think we can solve every problem.
But listening to God and being meek to his instruction is the only way we can win at this thing called life.
Meek in 2023 implies a weakness.
This isn’t how God interprets it.
Imagine a wild horse, strong and beautiful.
This horse bucks off every person who dares ride.
Nobody wants to handle this horse, but with the right trainer, they will have the energy to run like a stallion but be trained to work with its rider like a thoroughbred
The horse has a trainer they can trust.
This trainer is Jesus.
We are the wild horses, strong and beautiful creatures God made with his hands.
If we let God use us, he alone can harness that stubbornness.
We won’t be weak due to our meekness.
Quit the opposite, we will be strong as ever with the gift from God and the possibilities will be endless.
